Charcoal
I’ve been continuing my education in charcoal drawing and wanted to share my latest work.
I’ve been enjoying trying out some portraits and just purchased a large A2 pad with the plan to do a large slightly abstract portrait. I took a photo I found online and did a small sketch that a mapped out with some grid-lines and then started on the A2 sheet.
It was great fun working with the charcoal sticks and using a new white charcoal block. This is great for adding highlights and contrasting lines as you can see in the hair.
I really like the over exaggerated eye and bold lines of the hair in this one. I also loved working on a larger scale, gives me a lot more scope for making expressive strokes and correcting mistakes! 😉
